The purpose of this study is to bring much-needed attention to the comprehensive challenges of Black males in the United States. This study attempts to pull together much of the disparate work on Black male achievement. The study examines six areas in the lives of America’s
Black males:

1. Readiness to learn
2. Black male achievement on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
3. Black male achievement on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in selected big city school districts
4. College and career preparedness
5. School experience
6. Postsecondary experience
